The short answer

Prices include taking the frame apart where it stands, carrying the pieces out from any floor, and disposal. No stair charge, no walk-up fee, no same-day surcharge. The minimum visit is $75.

Which frame you have

The price difference is about mass and how the thing comes apart, not about how it looks.

Standard, metal or platform — $68. A steel bed rail assembly, a slatted platform, a bolt-together frame you could carry out in three trips yourself. This is most of what is under a mattress in a rental.

Solid wood, upholstered or storage — $126 up to queen, $152 for a king. A padded or fabric-wrapped frame, a solid timber frame, or a frame with drawers built into the base. These are heavy, they are frequently glued as well as bolted, and the storage versions have to be emptied before they move.

If you are unsure, push the side rail with your foot. If it flexes, it is the first category. If it does not move at all, it is the second.

Why upholstered frames do badly in Miami

The storage and upholstered frames that have taken over bedroom furniture in the last decade were not designed with this climate in mind, and it shows after a few years.

The fabric absorbs moisture the same way sofa upholstery does. A bed in a unit where the air conditioning was set high through a season, or in a seasonal apartment shut up from spring to autumn, comes back with a mildew smell in the padding. It does not come out, and it means the frame cannot be donated or sold — it goes on the truck like the mattress did.

The storage drawers are worse, because they are a sealed box under a bed in a humid room. People open one after a year away and find everything inside spotted.

And the frames are mostly engineered wood under the fabric. Two Miami summers and the edges swell, the veneer lifts and the bolt holes lose their grip, which is why so many of them cannot be taken apart and reassembled anywhere else.

Getting a king out of a Miami high-rise

The specific headache in Brickell, Downtown, Edgewater and along Collins: king frames and upholstered platforms are often larger than the service elevator opening.

Plenty of them went in during the fit-out, before interior doors were hung, and were assembled in the bedroom. They do not come back out assembled. The crew dismantles the frame in the room, cuts down any section that will not clear the lift, and carries the pieces down in one booked window.

That is inside the price. What is not inside the price is the building's paperwork, so deal with it first: ask the management office what the certificate of insurance has to name, get it issued a few days ahead, and take the earliest weekday window you are offered. In season those go days out, and buildings that release only one service elevator will not add a second because your bed is large.

For the walk-ups — third-floor South Beach Art Deco, the older stock in Little Havana and North Beach, no lift at all — the answer is the same and so is the price. There is no stair charge.

Bunk beds, Murphy beds and multigenerational rooms

Three cases that come up constantly here and are worth separating.

Bunk beds — $123, or $148 for solid wood and loft frames. Common across the single-story housing stock in Hialeah, Westchester and Kendall, where bedrooms get shared and households are often three generations deep. Bunks are bolted, tall and awkward at the top of a hallway turn; they come apart in the room, always.

Murphy beds — $130. The Brickell and Downtown studio solution. A wall bed is a cabinet, a steel mechanism and a spring or piston assembly, and it should be unloaded by someone who knows which part is under tension. Do not unbolt one and find out. Tell us it is a Murphy bed when booking so the crew arrives expecting it.

Hospital and adjustable beds — $145 and $118. Frequent in the Kendall, Pinecrest and North Miami houses where an older relative was being cared for at home, and frequently part of an estate clear rather than a single item.

Doing it in one visit with the mattress

Nearly nobody removes a frame on its own, and the totals are simple to build.

A queen mattress and box spring set at $143 with a metal frame at $68 is $143 + $68 = $211.

A king bedroom cleared properly — a king mattress at $114, a box spring at $92 and an upholstered king frame at $152 — is $114 + $92 + $152 = $358.

A child's room with a bunk bed at $123, a twin mattress at $82 and a dresser at $126 is $123 + $82 + $126 = $331.

All of it in one window, which in a building is the thing worth optimising.

What to do before the crew arrives

• Empty the storage drawers. They will not be emptied for you and a loaded frame does not lift.
• Strip the bedding. If it is going too, bagged clothing and linen is $35 a bag.
• Say if there are bed bugs. It changes handling, not price. Seal the mattress in the room before it moves rather than in the hallway.
• Book the elevator window before the pickup, not after, if you are in a tower.
• Do not part-dismantle it yourself. A frame in six pieces on a bedroom floor is harder to carry than a frame standing up, and you gain nothing — disassembly is already included.

Booking it

Send a photograph of the bed from the doorway and say whether it is metal, solid wood, upholstered or a wall bed, and what size. That is enough for an exact price before anything is scheduled.
